ANNABEL BARRY ART
Where Nature Meets Art
As a sculpture artist I love creating original, unique and unusual items. The versatile ways in which wire and other materials can be combined to create different shapes and forms is limited only by the imagination. Working with these mediums allows me to be creative with design and indulge my love of colour, turning concept into reality.

I come from a creative family. My mother was an actor, my father a television producer, my older brother is a musician, and my grandmother was an artist, so it was only natural that I would eventually follow in their footsteps.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to combine my love of painting with wildlife and nature, creating sculptures of animals, birds and other objects that will last a lifetime. I am fortunate to live just a brief walk away from the Thames Estuary and am never short of inspiration from the seabirds that flock there to the dogs on leads having their daily exercise.

A sculpture starts with an idea and evolves through design, construction, painting and finishing, before becoming what I hope is an interesting and tactile object. I often like to have the armature seen as part of the finished piece, using a variety of materials to fill in some of the negative space and leaving the viewer to ‘fill in the gaps’ for themselves. It can take me a few hours of fiddling about with the wire until suddenly there is a moment when the piece begins to finally evolve and take on a personality of its own.

Alongside my studio work, I enjoy working with people who commission me to create art pieces that are meaningful and personal to them. I see this as a working relationship which I hope produces a piece that they can feel a real connection with.
